The proposed project is a NEP (Neighborhood Entertainment Product) that will be a major part of the Phase 2 expansion of a major retail center in Japn (location not disclosed at client request). The development program is an anchor entertainment component of about 200,000 sf with the working thematic title of “Exploratorium”. The Exploratorium will occupy several levels (tbd) of space within the larger Phase 2 mixed-use development portion of the site, including street level access. The project is composed of the following program components: Rotunda / Entry, Exhibit areas for Science, History, Art, Food and Retail, and a rooftop Garden. Central to the architectural concept is the idea of a "found" archeological site contained in a contemporary shell. Seen as an outgrowth of our client’s interactive museum based on nature, TFO developed an architectural language derived from natural forms and forces. A planar geologic solid base is “excavated” to expose a glass crystalline object / lobby.
